A Chaplain’s Journey Through Crisis and Courage
Not every act of service is seen. Not every prayer is public. Not every leader is on a stage. Yet, some of the most powerful expressions of purpose and calling happen far from the spotlight, quietly, consistently, and with deep conviction.
In the military, in ministry, and in life, we often serve in places where applause does not echo and recognition never comes. But it is in those moments, in the late night check ins, the unseen prayers, the unnoticed kindness, that we live out true faithfulness.
I remember watching a petty officer carefully clean a common area late at night after a long shift.
No one asked him to do it. No one saw him but me. When I asked him why, he simply said, "This is where we all gather. It should feel like home." That was leadership in the shadows. That was faith in action.
As chaplains, we often walk alongside people in their hardest moments, moments no one else will ever know about. We sit with them through grief, disappointment, and silence. And we carry their stories not for credit, but because it is our calling.
Faithfulness in the shadows is not weakness. It is strength rooted in integrity. It is character formed in the quiet. It is purpose shaped by obedience, not applause.
Keep showing up. Keep serving. Keep believing that what you do matters, even when it feels like no one notices.
God sees you. Others are strengthened by you.
Scripture Reflection:
“Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:6)
